What to Expect

School Groups K - 12

When school groups arrive at the park, we ask that group leaders gather their students and chaperones together in front of the museum while one school representative checks in at the front desk to verify reservation information.

We will send a staff member out to greet your group and give a 5-minute orientation, after which your group is welcome to enter the Park.

Buses may unload at the curb in front of the museum, and may park in our overflow parking across the street and slightly east of our public parking lot. If that lot is full, parking can be found at the Timbermine Steakhouse further east.

Guided Activity Options

Fossil Presentation

Enjoy a hands-on fossil presentation aligned with Utah State Core Science Standards.

Museum Tour

Take a guided tour of the indoor museum with age appropriate content explaining different exhibits and fossils.

Hands-On Classroom Activity

Engage in a standards-aligned, hands-on activity in the Bone Cabin Outpost Classroom.

School field trip FAQ

What hours are available for field trips?

The Park opens at 10:00 AM, but we are open to school field trips at 9:15 AM. We host field trips throughout the entire year.

Fields trips can be booked by completing the form found on this webpage. If you need any assistance with completing the form, contact education@dinosaurpark.org.

Once booked, we’ll send you confirmation of your reservation with more details.

No. We ask for full payment 24 hours in advance in order to streamline your group’s entry into the park. With multiple school field trips of hundreds of students coming into the park on our busiest days, this makes your entrance stress-free for everyone! Late payments will incur a fee.

Some teachers find it helpful to collect payment in advance from their families and/or chaperones with the method of their choice (cash, Venmo, etc.).

All school field trips receive a quick orientation about the Park upon arrival and then, depending on what activities you’ve chosen for your age group, we suggest at least 2 ½ hours. If you plan to eat lunch at the Park you’ll want additional time. The Dinosaur Park does not limit the time school field trips can spend here. You’re welcome to stay as long as you want during our open hours.

Yes, you are welcome to bring outside food in for your students. We have plenty of picnic space available.

The Park offers 8 acres of outdoor trails as well as many fun playground toys. We suggest that you stay within a 5-7 students: 1 chaperone ratio to make your visit more manageable and enjoyable.

Spring field trip days book quickly! We suggest you book 2-3 months in advance for spring dates and at least one month in advance for autumn or winter field trips. Field trips are booked first come-first served and subject to the size of groups.

Plan for around 30 minutes per activity when you visit the Park. Large school groups will be split into multiple activity spots.

We do not limit the overall size of the school groups, but we do limit the size of the groups for activities and hands-on presentations.

If your group is larger than 150 students, you will need to book more than 1 arrival window to stagger your entry.

We prefer to keep activity groups under 30 students per group.

If this will not work for your class, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs.

Field trip rates will apply for all trip participants, regardless of age.

It is up to each individual school to decide their guidelines for additional participants during field trips.

We encourage you to dress appropriately for the weather.

If there is a significant weather concern reasoning cancellation, call the front desk at 801-393-3466. Then email: education@dinosaurpark.org to reschedule your field trip.

We will do our best to reschedule your group for your preferred dates, but we cannot guarantee availability.
